Health – Wellbeing

Finding a general practitioner, seeing a doctor in the evening or at the weekend, where to go for contraception, getting a screening test, seeking help for an addiction, there are many questions regarding your health.

I'm starting my studies, how can I be covered by health insurance (Social Security)?

You are automatically covered by health insurance (the «sécu»). You depend on the Primary health insurance fund (CPAM) of your place of residence or that of your parents

From 18 years, you will be directly insured (you will no longer be a “beneficiary” of your parents) and you will manage your own health. Don't forget to:

  • Create your ameli account, on ameli.fr or on the Ameli app
  • Send your bank details via your Ameli account
  • Register a GP
  • Update your Vitale card, at a pharmacy or at your health insurance fund
  • Take out private health insurance if you want to top up your reimbursements

What is the purpose of supplementary health insurance?

The National Health Service reimburses 70% of the costs health insurance. To be reimbursed at 100%, you must take out a Health insurance Who will pay the remaining 30%. Enquire with your parents' health insurance provider, student mutuals, or another private health insurance company. Compare the benefits and prices carefully.

I can't afford to pay for supplementary health insurance, are there any grants available?

If your resources do not exceed a certain amount, you may be eligible for the Solidarity Health Insurance.
She covers all healthcare costs (Doctor, dentist, medication...) and you won't have to pay anything upfront. Depending on your income, it can be free or paid (8€ per month for those under 29 years old).

To find out if you are eligible, use the simulator.

To make the request, use your Ameli account.

Please note: If you are under 25 years old, you will be considered a dependant of your parents and their income will also be taken into account.

I'm finishing my studies, how do I remain covered by health insurance?

You are looking for a job You remain affiliated with the social security scheme to which you were affiliated. You are entitled to have your healthcare costs covered until the age of 24. After that, you will be covered by the general scheme.

You are working You remain affiliated with the general social security scheme and are registered with the health insurance fund in your place of residence.

Yes You are starting a farming activity, it's the Agricultural Social Mutual Fund who takes care of you.

Why do you need to declare a nominated doctor?

The GP is your Referring physician. It is he who coordinate your medical follow-up in the context of Coordinated care pathway. He can refer you to a specialist doctor if necessary.

If you don't declare them, you'll be reimbursed less by the health insurance.
For example, your health insurance will reimburse you for your doctor’s appointments at a rate of 30% instead of 70% (€9 instead of €19).
