You need to do a work placement, and questions are coming to mind: do I need an agreement, will I be compensated... Here are the answers to the main questions you're asking yourself.

I would like to do an internship, do I absolutely need an internship agreement?

Yes, you must have an internship agreement signed by your school or university, your host company, and yourself. It is not possible to do an internship without an agreement.

My school/university doesn't want to provide me with an agreement, how can I get one?

An internship must be linked to a course of study. Only your school or university can provide you with an internship agreement..

If your school/university cannot provide you with an agreement, consider mini-stages The Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Chambers of Trades and Crafts sign agreements with pupils and students for optional internships, lasting 5 days maximum during the school holidays.

Please note: the World Stages programme from the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region allows you to go on Work placement abroad outside of studies for 3 to 5 months (if you are on a sabbatical semester or year, for example). A Internship agreement and a Stock exchange are planned as part of this programme.

Will I receive compensation?

If your internship lasts less than two months, your employer is not obliged to pay you an allowance. More than 2 months, it is compulsory. The minimum amount is £4.50 per hour.

What is the maximum duration of my work placement?

The maximum duration of an internship is 6 months per academic year.

What will my rights be as an intern?

You will have the same rights as employees at your host organisation notably in terms of:

  • access to meal vouchers or the staff canteen,
  • access to the social and cultural activities organised by the Social and Economic Committee (CSE),
